A Tribute to the CFL and Walk Off the Earth

CFL Fans, meet Walk Off the Earth.

I wrote a few weeks ago about my desire to cross pollinate the Argonauts with other arts and cultural scenes in the city.  Walk Off the Earth is a band from Burlington and they are well on their way to international success.  They are currently touring through Europe and will be playing a show in Toronto on April 12.  As of right now, their debut album, R.E.V.O. is sitting at #3 on iTunes Canada.

It’s not too late to hop on their band wagon.  Buy the album.  Go to a show.  Spread the word.  Get behind them as much as you do for the double blue.

The video itself was created from over 4,000 photographs that I shot at the CFL Combine.  Probably something like 150+ After Effects layers.  Tons of trouble shooting. Gobs of thinking and rethinking.  Hundreds of keyframe adjustments.

I am spent.

As I write this, I nervously await the verdict of the copyright creatures.  I talked to the band’s management today and they wished me well, but said they don’t have the power to influence copyright decisions.  If somebody higher up the food chain feels this video is detrimental to the bands image or intellectual property, it will be pulled down – and as a filmmaker who has his own intellectual property to protect, I wholly support any decision that comes down the pipe.

In the meantime, I combed the band’s facebook page looking for a sign.  It seems WOTE encourages fans to cover their music and let them know about it.  I’m hoping that goodwill extends to the artistic musings of this piece.  I haven’t been this anxious in a long time.

Please let me know what you think.
